From Oregon to Tennessee: The Ultimate 2,000-Mile Hawkins Ferry Flight Training Journey
Hawkins Flight Academy recently completed a 2,000-mile cross-country flight. A team of founders, instructors, and students flew three brand-new aircraft from a factory in Oregon to our headquarters in Shelbyville, Tennessee, closely serving our Tupelo, Mississippi base.
Real-World Cross-Country Training
This four-day, 27-hour trip was more than an aircraft delivery. It was an advanced training mission. Two ambitious students helped plan the route. They calculated fuel limits, monitored weather systems, and learned to travel like professional aviators.
Navigating Complex Airspace and Terrain
The long route tested the crew with very different flying environments. They flew over the high peaks of the Sierra Nevada mountains and navigated the busy, strict airspace over Las Vegas.
The students gained real experience with mountain weather, density altitude, and complex radio calls. They learned to make safe, confident choices under the direct guidance of our professional instructors.
