Multi-Engine Rating

Focused Training for Pilots Ready for the Next Aircraft

Your multi-engine rating is not a shortcut. It is a focused step into higher workload, sharper decisions, and aircraft systems that demand preparation.

At Hawkins Flight Academy, accelerated multi-engine training means focused, structured instruction. You arrive ready to work, review the aircraft systems, practice the procedures, and build the decision flow needed for multiengine flying. The goal is not to rush the rating. The goal is to keep the training concentrated so each lesson builds on the one before it.

  • Train in the Piper Aztec You train in a twin-engine aircraft that gives you real systems, real performance planning, and the cockpit workload needed for meaningful multi-engine practice.
  • Prepare Before the Flight Block A concentrated course works best when you show up ready. We help you understand the requirements, study focus, aircraft systems, and practical-test path before training starts.
  • Practice Procedures With Structure Multi-engine training requires calm checklist use, clear callouts, engine-out decision-making, and disciplined risk management. We keep those pieces organized so you are not guessing in the airplane.

Your instructor recommends you for the practical test when you meet the applicable requirements and are ready. Weather, aircraft availability, instructor scheduling, and examiner timing can affect the final schedule, so the strongest first step is a clear planning conversation before you reserve a training block.

Multi-Engine Rating FAQs

You generally need to already hold at least a Private Pilot certificate before adding a multi-engine airplane rating. Many career-track pilots add it near commercial training or as part of a professional path.

The timeline depends on your preparation, weather, aircraft availability, instructor scheduling, and practical-test timing. We can review current availability with you before you choose a training block.

We use the Piper Aztec for multi-engine rating training. It gives you a real twin-engine cockpit for systems work, performance planning, and engine-out procedure training.

Once you pass the practical test, your pilot certificate includes the applicable multi-engine rating. Your privileges still depend on your certificate level, currency, endorsements, aircraft, and operating rules.
